About Me

Cat Taylor

I am a qualified Psychological Therapist and Occupational Therapist with 15 years’ experience, specialising in adult mental health.  I am an accredited Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Practitioner, certified Sensorimotor Psychotherapist, certified Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST) Therapist and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) Practitioner.  I have also completed training in other therapeutic models.

My experience has been gained from working in a number of different settings within the NHS and third sector, with individuals and groups experiencing a wide range of psychological difficulties.  These difficulties have included: anxiety; depression; obsessions and compulsions; post-traumatic stress; dissociation; relationships difficulties; histories of emotional, physical and sexual abuse.

I have worked within an NHS Specialist Psychotherapy Service, Personality and Complex Trauma Team; acute inpatient and community mental health settings; bereavement and homelessness charities.  I was also part of the education and training team at the Nightingale Hospital during the pandemic, responsible for delivering psychological training and support to staff.

I now specialise in working with people who have experienced trauma and loss in their life and continue to struggle with the impact of these experiences on self, relationships and day-to-day functioning.  However, the extent of experience and training I have, enables me to apply my expertise and knowledge to helping individuals who experience a range of mental health difficulties.

I primarily take an integrative approach to practice.  This means that I draw upon a range of therapeutic models to create an individually tailored therapy to best meet your needs.  My work is relational and attachment-focused, supporting you to develop an understanding of your difficulties within the context of significant relationships and life experiences.

Where difficulties are rooted in past trauma, I will work alongside you with an emphasis on safety and stabilisation prior to the processing of any traumatic symptoms / memories. I am trained in a number of trauma-focused therapies including Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Trauma-Informed Stabilisation Treatment (TIST), and where helpful can incorporate ‘parts’ work into therapy.
